Children's Ministry

Children are a gift from the Lord: They are a reward from Him.
-Psalms 127:3

Farmington UMC Children's Ministry provides a fun, safe environment for children to learn about God’s love and the Bible.  We believe that children may forget what you say, and they may forget what you do, but they will never forget how you make them feel.  Our goal is for every child who participates in any children’s program here feels the love of Jesus!

Our weekly programs for children include Sunday School at 9:35 am, a children’s message during the 10:30 am contemporary worship service followed by children’s church.  Following the school year schedule we also have a Wednesday Night Live class, with a fellowship dinner at 5:30 followed by class from 6:15 - 7:15 pm.  We also have special events throughout each year, including an Easter egg hunt, Vacation Bible School, a Fall festival, and a Christmas program.

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:

Due to COVID-19, we are currently doing online lessons for children to do with their parents on Sunday mornings or sometime during the week, but we are excited to announce the return of in-person activities for our children beginning in October!  All activities will be held in accordance with current guidelines from ADH and the Methodist Church.  If Farmington schools are closed to onsite learning due to COVID on a day adjacent to a planned activity, that activity will be cancelled.

The children’s WNL class (grades K-6) will resume on October 7 from 6-7 pm. Children’s church will resume on October 11 during the 10:30 am worship service. As long as the weather is good (50 degrees or warmer and not raining), both WNL and children’s church will be held outside, so please dress your child accordingly!
——-—
Following are more specific guidelines the children’s ministry will follow, to be shared with parents:

- Attendance will be taken at all events. This includes all attendees, staff and volunteers.
- Covid questionnaires will be filled out for all events, including WNL (for children’s church those questions would already have been asked of the family). This includes all attendees, staff and volunteers. No one will be allowed in if showing symptoms or if they’ve had possible or known exposure. If someone has had a positive covid test, they will not be allowed to return to in person activities until cleared by their doctor.
- If Farmington schools are closed due to covid on a day adjacent to an event, that event will be cancelled. If schools are closed on Friday or scheduled to be closed on Monday, no Sunday events will be held. If schools are closed on Wednesday or scheduled to be closed on Thursday, WNL will not be held.
- Masks will be worn by everyone unless and until 6’ of social distancing is accomplished.
- We will stay outside as much as possible (50 degrees or warmer and not raining).
- Games and activities will not include items that multiple people touch (such as playing catch with a ball or passing cards around) or that require being closer than 6’ from each other.
- Snacks will only be served in prepackaged individual containers. Volunteers will wear a mask and gloves to pass them out.
- Materials for crafts, etc, will be prepared in advance in individual portions (for example, crayons and paper for each child will be set at each place in advance by the teacher). Volunteers will wear a mask and gloves to pass them out.
- Doors to the children’s ministry room and hallway will be propped open before events and stay open until everyone is gone.
- Children's ministry area (room, bathrooms and hall) will be cleaned and sanitized weekly.  High touch areas will be sanitized more often.

Thank you!
Melanie Barnes

Vacation Bible School: The Great Treasure Hunt!

For VBS this summer, we will have 4 days of programming over 2 weeks in mid-July with a theme, music, crafts, and lessons - all the usual VBS fun - but in a combination of “to-go” supply bags and videos for the kids to watch at home.  They’ll have the opportunity to “chat” with other kids and discuss lessons and show off their creations.
